Where do they come from and what are they trying to do? Since mid-November 2024, numerous unidentified drones have been observed in New Jersey, notably over the Picatinny Arsenal military research center and the Bedminster Golf Club, owned by President-elect Donald Trump. These sightings have also spread to other areas of the East Coast of the United States, sparking concern and speculation among residents and authorities. The origins and intentions of these overflights remain mysterious, but several hypotheses have been put forward to try to explain this phenomenon.
Foreign surveillance
Some U.S. officials have suggested that these drones could be used by foreign powers for espionage purposes. House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul has said that some of the drones could be "spy drones" from China, particularly because of their presence over sensitive military bases.
Secret government programs or covert activities
Another theory suggests that these drones could be linked to classified government programs, although the agencies involved have not confirmed this possibility. It is also possible that these drones could be used for illegal activities, such as monitoring potential targets or transporting illicit substances. However, no concrete evidence has been presented to support this hypothesis.
Disinformation, drones and technological solutions: A challenge for aviation safety
These numerous events have caused a real explosion on social networks. Between testimonies, videos and various information shared, it is clear that not everything is true. Indeed, with the rise of artificial intelligence, disinformation proliferates more than ever on the Internet.
It is hard to imagine that the US military, equipped with advanced technology, does not have the tools to detect and respond to these aerial intrusions. This apparent lack of response raises many questions, fueling conspiracy theories and distrust of authorities.
In Quebec, UTM Canada has developed its own aircraft detection system, designed to ensure optimal safety. With our expertise in event management and detection, our sophisticated solutions enable effective surveillance of airspace and the implementation of appropriate measures against any potential threat. The number of drones flying over our heads is much greater than one might think. Thanks to our advanced detection system, we have identified drones operating at altitudes exceeding 10,000 feet, a height not authorized in Canada. These devices, most of which are unidentified, raise many questions.
For the uninitiated, it is important to note that a standard drone usually flies at an altitude of less than 400 feet. These devices detected at 10,000 feet therefore have exceptional capabilities, allowing them to travel very long distances with considerable autonomy and power.
In our next column, we will share never-before-seen videos captured by one of our partners in Coaticook. These images show unidentified objects moving in the sky, proving that these phenomena are not exclusive to the United States. Stay tuned to learn more about these aerial mysteries that surround us.
In conclusion
Many questions remain unanswered. People are wondering, feeling fears, and the context of current international conflicts does nothing to calm minds. One thing is certain: these drones are not there for fun. There is a real reason behind this story, and we hope to discover the truth in the near future.
