DRONE MANAGEMENT : HELP AND NOT SUPPRESS

Airspace is increasingly occupied by a new type of aircraft, better known as “drones”. Its proliferation is exponential and requires us to safely improve air traffic through advanced tracking systems in order to prevent a catastrophe from occurring.

Based in Sherbrooke, the company UTM CANADA has developed a technology aimed at securing air travel through integrated management of unmanned aircraft, called SATP for “remotely piloted aircraft system”.

Faced with this growing phenomenon, several players in the aeronautics and public safety world are increasingly interested in the detection tool developed by UTM CANADA . Several of them were recently treated to a particularly convincing demonstration in Quebec.

The objective of the system is not to detect and repress drone users who often find themselves in precarious situations with a high risk of accident, but to provide them with assistance to be able to better manage their use while respecting the Transport Canada regulations.

Drones are becoming more and more omnipresent in our environment. Everyone was surprised during the presentation in Quebec that even in the bitter winter cold, multiple drones were moving in the area surrounding the Quebec airport or the sky overlooking Old Quebec.

The ease of using drones without respecting the rules can go so far as to compromise the flight plans of major airlines, or even put the safety of crews and their passengers at risk.

Faced with unbridled use in particular of recreational drones, UTM CANADA has designed and developed a mobile detection unit which can thus follow the movement of the aircraft without loss of signal. The components of this mobile system also have the particularity of being integrated into other platforms.

At the end of the Quebec demonstration, everyone recognized that it is important to be proactive towards supervised management of drones in order to maintain a high level of security for both users and the general population. This is how the tools developed by UTM CANADA constitute undeniable support for the application of the rules laid down by Transport Canada.

Already in high demand, UTM CANADA representatives continue to hold awareness meetings with various stakeholders in the field from air transport, public safety or even simple users. The company thus demonstrates that it is a leader in this area to the greatest benefit of all.
